Canine (K-9) Unit
Overview
The Plant City Police Department's K-9 Unit consists of two German Shepherd canines and two German Shepherd / Belgian Malinois mix canines. The dogs and their assigned handlers participate in over 400 hours of initial training as well as monthly training in several areas which include:
- Obedience
- Handler protection
- Tracking
- Building searches
- Detection of narcotics
Our K9 teams are assigned to each patrol squad and are an invaluable asset to enhance the overall effectiveness and safety of the patrol squads and citizens alike.
