Solid Waste

  1. Please do not put anything on the curb before the storm except for your household trash cart or recycling bin for your normal collection on Monday 10/7 or Tuesday 10/8.  Ensure your cart's lid is down and do not stack anything on the cart.

  2. Regular City operations will be closed on Wednesday 10/9 and Thursday 10/10.  We plan to resume normal services on Friday 10/11 with collection of Friday's routes as normal, depending on the severity of the storm.  If we must remain closed on Friday, we will follow up with a revised schedule.

  3. Furniture and bulk items that are on the curb now require a work order and may not be picked up on Monday 10/7 or Tuesday 10/8.   If these items are not picked up by Tuesday 10/8, please move them back to your residence and secure them so they do not become projectiles in the storm.  Do not add anything to the curb until the upcoming 10/12-13 weekend.

  4. Most grabber piles of vegetative yard debris that the City saw on Friday 10/4 will be picked up on Monday 10/7 or Tuesday 10/8.  Do not add any more vegetative debris to the curb until the upcoming 10/12-13 weekend.

  5. If you have vegetative debris created by Hurricane Milton, please stack it curbside during the weekend of 10/12-13 so that collection may begin next week.  Be sure to keep vegetative debris separate from other types of solid waste at the curb and keep all piles at least 3 feet from mailboxes, fire hydrants, power poles, cable boxes, trash roll carts, and other obstacles.

This information is subject to change due to the path of the storm and its severity.  Please monitor storm alerts on the City's website (www.plantcitygov.com) or social media platforms for the most recent updates.

Power Outage Tips – Tampa Electric

Rain and high winds can bring down power lines in our community and/or cause power outages.  Please follow these safety tips from Tampa Electric:

  • If you will be using a generator, NEVER connect it to your home's circuits.  Connecting your generator to the circuits may cause power to flow to outside lines, posing life-threatening danger to restoration crews.
  • Stay away from downed power lines.
  • Use portable generators safely.
  • Plug your appliances directly into the generator.
  • Stay out of floodwaters because they can hide energized power lines.
  • Don't take portable generators into homes or any enclosed space (like a garage) where deadly carbon monoxide gases could build up.

During a power outage, please limit your water usage as it can cause water pressure to drop resulting in potential contamination.
