Holiday Season Used Cooking Oil, Fats and Grease
The holiday season is here. Family, friends, lots of cooking and delicious meals.
What about all the used cooking oil, fat and grease?
Please Don’t –
- Pour used cooking oil, fat or grease down the drain...even if you add hot water and soap. Pouring cooking oil, fat or grease down the drain can cause a serious problem for home plumbing and the City of Plant City’s wastewater collection system
- Flush cooking oil, fat or grease down the toilet
- Put greasy foods down the garbage disposal
Built up grease will eventually begin to solidify and form large plugs which can be difficult and expensive to remove. Small amounts of grease entering drains in a community can eventually become a problem which disrupts the plumbing of everyone in the neighborhood! Really bad blockages can force grease and raw sewage out of manholes.
Additional Steps To Take To Prevent Clogged Pipes -
- Put leftover food in the trash before washing dishes
- Get a mesh strainer for the sink to stop food debris from going down the drain
Where Can I Take Used Cooking Oil and Grease ?
Collected used cooking oil and grease can be brought to the City’s
Public Used Oil Collection Site at the corners of Plant and Victoria Streets
Monday through Friday - 7:30am To 3:30pm.
